SOPB donates treadmill to Miri rehab centre

MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palm Berhad (SOPB) donated a treadmill to community-based rehabilitation centre (PDK) Miri to ensure children with special needs receive modern and up-to-date therapy as part of its corporate social responsibility programme to grow with local communities.

“Therapy programmes at PDK Miri is crucial in helping these children improve mobility and gross motor development, especially those with cerebral palsy and mobility problem.

“The treadmill will help these children with balance and build confidence during therapy as well as improve their walking patterns,” said SOPB in a press release.

SOPB’s plantation controller Selvarajah Lurdusamy handed over the treadmill to deputy chairwoman of PDK Miri’s Association Of Parents With Special Children (Pibakis) Hasima Hamdan.

Under SOPB-Get Equip’d rehabilitation programme, SOPB has also sponsored a professional development programme for three PDK Miri’s staff into its training programme.

Get Equip’d, an Australian-based non-profitable organisation set up in November 2018 at Perth to ensure individuals with special needs are supported and integrated seamlessly into the community.

Physiotherapist Dr Dayna Pool gave a three-day training on the role of clinical liaison therapist from the administrative and organisational perspective. PDK staff also learnt how Get Equip’d work effectively as a team.
