BINTULU: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) recently donated the sum of RM9,025.10 to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebauh in Bintulu and its fire victims through its Disaster Relief Fund.

An early morning fire burnt down a two-storey student dormitory block and two pre-school classes of SK Sebauh on August 5.

SOPB Group decided to come forward and offer relief in order to ease the plight of the affected parties especially the pupils, the warden as well as the pre-school classes.

Representing the company was its Regional Plantation Controller Pang Seng Nam together with Public Relations personnel who visited SK Sebauh and handed over the relief in cash and in kind to the school’s representative earlier this week.

Apart from cash, 58 students including the two children of the warden also received school bags and stationery packs from the company.

SOPB Disaster Relief Fund is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

It is a special programme designated to reach out to the community in the vicinity of SOP’s operations affected by natural disasters such as flood and fire.

This gesture illustrates SOPB’s ongoing commitment in giving back to the society.

SK Sebauh is also one of the schools listed under SOPB’s Young Achievers Award (YAA) and Student Adoption Programme (SAP).

This CSR initiative primarily focuses on motivating, encouraging and promoting education among the young generation in the rural areas as well as providing financial support to underprivileged students from low income families in SOPB’s landscape.
