Some of the donors at the blood drive

MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad’s (SOPB) first Blood Donation Drive of the year on Saturday collected 75 pints.

Organised by SOPB in collaboration its home brand ‘Merris’, Miri Hospital Blood Bank, and the Malaysian Red Crescent Miri District, the blood drive was part of the group’s initiative to give back to the community.

“We strive to actively contribute towards the needs and well-being of the local community, which is in line with our corporate social responsibility tagline, ‘We grow together with local communities’.” SOPB Assistant Head of Support and Services Joseph Ling Tiong Ing said in a press statement Tuesday.

He said the blood drive, which is held twice a year, also sought to address the shortage of blood in stock.

Knowing that the blood bank frequently faces insufficient stock, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, it is crucial to maintain the blood stock. Hopefully this small contribution from SOP Group could assist the blood bank to overcome this problem,” said Ling.

Every successful donor received a goodie bag and 2kg pure blended Merris Cooking Oil produced locally in SOPB’s refinery with freshly harvested 100 percent Sarawak-grown palm oil.

SOP group is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

To commemorate the milestone, events lined up throughout the year include SOP Charity Run, Young Achiever’s Award, Student Adoption Programme, SOPB – Get Equip’d Rehabilitation Programme, and Vision Care Project.
