MIRI: A free eye-screening exercise at Batu Lintang in Sri Aman last weekend found 182 of the 191 longhouse folk screened to be in need of spectacles.

The eye-screening was initiative of Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB), under its Vision Care Project, and was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Paku.

The participants were from 20 longhouses, and they are Native Customary Rights (NCR) land owners of SOP Batu Lintang Estate.

Those in need will be given spectacles by SOPB.

Meanwhile, SOP Public Relations Executive Enki Pati said Vision Care was a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for the benefit of longhouse folk in area where SOPB operates.

This CSR project started in 2013 and has been conducted annually.

Enki said SOPB aim to help lower the risk of preventable blindness among longhouse residence, especially those who did not have access to proper medical facilities.

SOPB will continue to organize and social related activities for the benefit of the local communities.
