SOP Blood Donation Drive successfully collected 80 pints in its effort to assist Miri Blood Bank to overcome the insufficient stock during critical periods.

Miri – 80 pints of blood were collected from 98 registered in Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) Blood Donation Drive held in collaboration with Merris, a 100% Sarawak produced cooking oil by SOP, at Level 3 Exhibition Hall, Boulevard Shopping Mall on Saturday, 24th September 2022.

The blood donation drive comes as a part of the Group’s initiative to give back to the community as it strives to actively contribute towards the need and well-being of the local communities which is line with its corporate social responsibility tagline, “We grow together with local communities”.

This twice a year CSR programme by SOP is supported by Blood Bank of Miri General Hospital and Malaysian Red Crescent Society (Miri Chapter) and aims mainly to help the blood bank to overcome the shortage of supply during critical periods.

The successful donors were presented with a goodies bag and a bottle of Merris Premium Edition Red Palm Oil which is produced locally in SOP’s refinery with 100% Sarawakian grown oil palm.

According to Assistant Head of Support & Services of SOP, Mr. Joseph Ling Tiong Ing, the donation drive was meant to promote the awareness of the shortage of blood stock that frequently encountered by Blood Bank across Sarawak as well as to encourage Miri residents to adopt healthy lifestyles.

“Hopefully, this small contribution from SOP Group could assist the blood bank to overcome this problem. We would also like to thank the public for their support towards our blood donation drive. Additionally, I am very proud of SOPB staff members who stepped forward and donated their blood”, he added.

The blood donation drive was part of SOP’s constant commitment to give back to society, knowing that the Blood Bank frequently suffers from insufficient stock. It is crucial to maintain the blood stock especially during festive seasons and school holidays when demand rises.
