SOP’ s Estate Manager Mr. Lim Hung Hui hands over donation to Rumah Guntong’s representative Tuai Rumah Daniel anak Lawi.

Miri – Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) donated RM5,700 to the fire victims of Rumah Guntong in Sri Aman through its Disaster Relief Fund. This gesture illustrates SOP’s ongoing commitment in giving back to the society.

SOP Disaster Relief Fund is part of the Company’s corporate social responsibility. It is a special programme designated to reach out to the community in the vicinity of SOP’s operations affected by natural disasters such as flood and fire.

SOP was represented by its Estate Manager Mr. Lim Hung Hui who visited the fire victims at Rumah Guntong located 7 kilometres from the Company’s estate.

The fire on 18th December 2019 destroyed and burnt down 17 doors of Rumah Guntong thus leaving 64 people homeless.

Considering the urgent need at a time of this calamity, the Group decided to contribute towards this cause in order to ease the burden of the fire victims. The longhouse residents who received the relief assistance expressed their gratitude and thanked SOP for its generosity.

For the time being, they are staying at temporary shelters or with relatives nearby.
