MIRI: SOP Foods, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) launched two new quality products, Crescent Margarine and Crescent Shortening, at Imperial Hotel here Thursday.

As a truly Sarawak home-grown manufacturer, SOP Foods aims to help local bakery industry reduce reliance on ingredients brought in from the peninsula and overseas with high freight charges.

SOPB‘s Chief Operating Officer Eric Kiu in his speech said that the idea is for SOPB to source the best raw ingredients and use the best quality oil palm fruit bunches for its products.

Both products are produced in the new state-of-the-art speciality fats plant in Bintulu, thus avoiding long shipping time and deterioration of product quality. Crescent Margarine and Crescent Shortening specially formulated to suit local taste buds and the hot climate are perfect companions for everyday baking.

Crescent Margarine available in 18kg carton and 1kg pouch as well as Crescent Shortening in 16kg carton will be marketed by SOP Foods through its extensive distribution network.

Being the pioneer and key player in Sarawak Palm Oil Industry, SOPB has taken a step forward by going into downstream production. Its popular household brands include Merris, Saraco and Master Fritura.

SOPB incorporated in 1968 with initial planting area of 4,600 hectares has grown into a fully integrated palm oil conglomerate.
