As Malaysians, we love to eat! And that also means some of us would actually learn how to cook so that we are able to satisfy our own cravings whenever we want to! But when it comes to cooking oil, there are so many options available in the market – we’re not too sure which would be the best option for us in terms of the health benefits.

Listed below several criteria to look for in choosing the best cooking oil for you and your loved ones:

1. Certified MeSTI and HALAL

Firstly, get a cooking oil that is labeled with MeSTI & HALAL logos. When the cooking oil has MeSTI Certification, it means the manufacturer has fulfilled Food Hygiene Regulations requirements and indicates that the product is safe to consume. Secondly, get cooking oil with legitimate HALAL logo, it shows that the product is qualified to be consumed by Muslim.

2. Vitamins A, E and D

Health-wise, we would want cooking oils that naturally contain Vitamin A, E and D. The winning factor that differs it from other competing healthy oils is that it has both members of the Vitamin E family, Tocotrienols and Tocopherols.

Tocotrienols are 40-60 times powerful than Tocopherols, which makes it a better antioxidant.

3. No Cholesterol and Trans-Fat Free

Another consideration is of course to get cooking oil that is cholesterol-free, and derived from plant sources. In addition to that, the healthy cooking oil should also be non-GMO and is free of trans-fat.

4. MSPO Certified

When it comes to cooking oils, palm oil is typically considered the most controversial of the options – for both health and environment reasons. That was when the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme in Malaysia was established, allowing oil palm plantations and palm oil processing facilities to be certified against the requirements of the MSPO Standards.

The MSPO Certification provides a credible sustainable and responsible management, to bring about positive social, environmental and economic impacts, while minimizing the negative impacts, particularly on its people and the environment. You can easily identify whether the oil is MSPO Certified or not, by looking for the MSPO logo printed on the packaging label.
